It's midnight and I am enjoying the sweet sounds of silence, thanks to the Hushamok ($429) sleeping hammock for infants. My 8-week-old son was recently diagnosed with acid reflux and I am so thankful that I have a safe and sound place for him to sleep comfortably, despite this hurdle. Ever since we noticed how well he napped in the Hushamok, we've been splitting the night between a traditional flat bassinet, and the hammock.
Sleeping hammocks have been in use for centuries, and with good reason: Babies enjoy the sensation of movement. The gentle swaying of the hammock reminds them of the womb and naturally soothes them back to sleep when they stir. It is an invaluable tool for parents of colicky babies and those, like mine, with reflux. The slightly slanted angle keeps their heads elevated more than a flat bed, minimizing reflux and thus promoting a healthful rest for all. They are also useful in the prevention of SIDS as they promote restful back sleeping, the position recommended by physicians. Hushamoks are intended for infants from birth to 22 pounds.

Where I grew up, it wasn't uncommon to spend entire days outside. From sunrise to sunset, my friends and I would play in the woods -- splashing our way upstream and building forts in the roots of upturned trees. My own two sons are growing up in a decidedly more urban environment, and I regret that I haven't been able to give them some of that outdoor freedom that I myself enjoyed as a child. To help make up for it we often go camping and hiking, where we try to foster in Owen and Sam a love of adventure and exploring. When it came time to get the boys shoes worthy of their toddler adventures, our thoughts immediately turned to Teva.
Founded in the 1980s by a Colorado River guide, Teva has been protecting the feet of outdoor enthusiasts for more than two decades and is considered a pioneer in the sport sandal market. But did you know that that same level of protection is available to your own tiny pioneers? We recently tested two of Teva's newest styles, and suffice it to say, the adventure has begun!

I was worried about using a traditional padded bumper in my new baby's crib due to the risk of SIDS, but I found a great alternative in the CozyWedge ($59.99) from Inspired Ideas. Invented by Margaret Pressler, a mom of three, it's a firm wedge-shaped bumper that won't form a pocket around a baby's nose and mouth, making it a safer choice than a padded bumper. It consists, basically, of firm foam wedges that you insert into a fabric slipcover which comes available in either 100% organic cotton solid or 100% cotton print. It is then securely tied to the crib's rails and used as a crib bumper; It fits snugly and won't slip down between the rails.
The company just sent Tori Spelling one for her daughter's arrival next month.

I thought I had seen it all when it came to nursing cover ups. Basically I thought there were only three varieties: the apron, the blanket/shawl and the poncho. But I was wrong! Because a very, very clever mom has come up with a whole new way to cover up when nursing your baby in public. You might even say that she came up with it right off the top of her head ... the MoBoleez ($29.99) is brilliant!
All kidding aside, when I saw this product I had to crack a great big grin. I never would have thought of using a wide brimmed hat to cover my breast while nursing but it makes perfect sense. And it works just perfectly!

I used to have the following recurring nightmare: It involved going to Disneyland with my kids...We'd all be having fun until we got back to the stroller parking area, after a ride, when I'd attempt to reclaim our stroller. Only suddenly there would be twenty other strollers parked there that looked exactly like mine. They'd have unfamiliar stains and other kids' sweatshirts in them. A feeling of panic washes over me. The cure? BabiePlates.
BabiePlates are not the flimsy kiddo license plates of your childhood. They are oh-so-much cooler and more substantial. Not to mention European! Who can help but rubberneck when they see a set of cool black and white European license plates? And they allow you to immediately identify your stroller in a crowd, deter theives and provide added safety/reflection for nighttime strolls.
